2016-2017 New Westminster Chamber of Commerce Leadership.
Stan Weismiller was born and raised in Victoria and moved to Coquitlam in the early 1970s. The eldest of five children, he learned at an early age to work hard and finish what you start. Graduating from Centennial High School, he immediately registered at Simon Fraser University. Stan graduated SFU with a B.Sc. Co-op degree in 1981.
Stan started working at Winvan Paving Ltd., a family owned business, as a labourer on a full-time seasonal employee during the summers in the mid-1970s. After graduation from SFU he started in the business full-time as an estimator and is now Winvan’s President and General Manager. Winvan Paving Ltd. has been located in Braid Industrial Area of New Westminster since 1960 and is a road building company that specializes in asphalt and concrete paving, asphalt milling, grade preparation and road re-construction.
He and his wife raised their family in Abbotsford and volunteered in various groups such as Scouting, coaching sports and participating on Church committees. Stan works with his siblings in the business and he now has some of his family taking on important roles within the business.
Stan joined the Chamber of Commerce in 2013 after the Chamber’s Executive Director detailed the change in direction the Chamber Board of Directors was taking with local issues. He was asked to participate on the Board of Directors in the fall of 2013 to fill a vacancy. The first year of participating on the Board of Directors has been very interesting, challenging and rewarding all at the same time.
The opportunities to learn about our City, the different types of businesses located within the City and the employees that earn a living by working in the community are interesting. The difficulties that businesses face with uncompetitive taxes, problematic environs and regulation changes are challenging. The rewarding aspect is that we all learn so much about each other while working together to address the challenges that local businesses face. We have a dedicated Board that works well together for the enhancement of the whole City.
